New four-cylinder diesel for Infiniti Q70

Economical 2.2-litre diesel engine makes the Infiniti Q70 capable of almost 60mpg

Infiniti Q70 2015

The Infiniti Q70, a rival for the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, will be available in January with a four-cylinder 2.2-litre diesel engine, lowering emissions and improving fuel economy over the old 3.0-litre V6.

Mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, the new 168bhp diesel emits just 129g/km of CO2 and can return 57.6mpg. It’ll still do 0-62mph in 8.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 137mph, despite being almost 70bhp down on the old engine. For comparison, the outgoing V6 could only manage 37.7mpg, while emitting 199g/km of CO2.

Prices start from £32,650 for the basic Premium diesel, making this the cheapest Q70 on sale. All cars come with full LED headlights, a rear-view camera and 18-inch wheels. Inside you’ll find leather seats and sat-nav as standard. The cheapest BMW 5 Series is the 518d in Luxury trim, but that comes with a manual gearbox and costs £33,665.

The Q70 2.2d Sport is priced from £35,850, and boasts more aggressive styling, uprated brakes and 20-inch wheels.

Buyers can add a Tech pack to both Premium and Sport models, adding intelligent cruise control, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring. The additional spec also includes a 16-speaker Bose stereo, Infiniti’s Around View Monitor, and an upgraded air-conditioning system.

Elsewhere in the Q70 range, the Hybrid is now faster and more efficient than before, capable of 0-62mph 5.3 seconds and CO2 emissions of just 145g/km. There’s a 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine on offer too, but sales of that model are expected to be low in the UK due to the comparatively high running costs.

Could these changes tempt yu into buying a new Infiniti Q70? Let us know below...
