Subaru Impreza (Old)
Owner verdict (Driver Power 2010): It’s the preferred choice of Subaru loyalists, but the old-shape Impreza still knows how to thrill. Fifth in the handling chart, and second for performance, prove that few cars can match the Impreza’s engine and chassis combination. But high servicing and fuel costs put it below the Porsche 911 and Land Rover Discovery in terms of running costs.

Subaru Impreza STi
"It's the only bit of the car that ever goes wrong," shrugged my dealer. "It's the only bit that's British." A damning statement, but true. Having covered 7,385 miles, our £27,495 Impreza STi's sophisticated alarm and immobiliser system had broken while the car was being used as holiday transport in France - threatening to leave us stranded. |
