A facelifted version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta has been unveiled with a hi-tech diesel engine and new infotainment system.
The 2.0-litre Multijet turbodiesel engine delivers 150bhp and 380Nm at 1,750rpm – claimed to be the highest torque in the Giulietta’s class at low revs.
The engine uses the third generation of the Fiat Group’s common-rail system to deliver quick and continuous injection of fuel into the cylinders. Alfa claims the improved combustion process helps ensure quieter running, reduced fuel consumption and reduced particulate and nitrogen oxide emissions.
Reliability is said to be improved too, because the injectors are now made with fewer components.
The uconnect multimedia system works via a 5-inch or 6.5-inch touchscreen and features sat-nav, voice control and DAB. There’s also an advanced Bluetooth system which reads text messages out.
Minor styling tweaks include a selection of new paint colours – Moonlight Pearl, Anodizzato Blue and Bronze - and new alloy wheel designs, in 16, 17 or 18 inches.
There’s a new front grille too, plus the foglight frames are now chrome plated, while inside a new steering wheel, seats and storage compartments are the highlights.
Right-hand-drive models are expected to go on sale at the start of next year, with Alfa hoping the Giulietta can build on the success of the current model, which has been a big hit with Auto Express readers, finishing seventh in Driver Power this year.
