Generally excellent but compromises come in to play in the name of being envronmentally friendly and offering conveniance and alledgedly safety features it seem favoured by the American market. Some niggly minor quality of materials issues, metal earth tabs between boot hatch window, boot and car body have broken, parcel sheft retraction guides show cracking, interior trim colour lamination peeled in one small place. Is this because the recyclable plastics used are not so durable?
In the name of conveniance when a puncture occurs and for safety reasons the car uses run flat tyres, no where to put a spare wheel of any type. Run flat tyre behaviour varies greatly with weather (temperature) conditions and tyre manufacturer with Michelin Pilot Primacy HP ZP's being significantly better than Continental Premium Contact SSR's and Bridgestone Turanza RFT's. Ride is if the road surface is bad by a greater margin than you would expect comparing with other cars, tram-lining and grip insecurity also noticeable especially when cold. Better roads and warmer weather and you get something with the kind of excellent driving characteristics you should expect from a BMW. Standard seat comfort just not good enough, lumbar support (not standard) helps but sports seats is the real answer as these are very good.
Overall nothing else I would prefer but falls short of perfection for these flaws.

Other than the DSC control unit failing, the car hasn't missed a beat!
The service light comes on more often than it should, but I understand that the service scheduling has been changed in newer versions.
The fact that folding rear seats is an option & mine didn't have that option is annoying (why not make it standard?)
The 2.0D is great, although Turbo lag could be better.
The MSport suspension & run flats do make for a hard ride, but as my previous cars were original Mini's & an Mx5 it doesn't bother me.
Overall my 320D MSport is very satisfying to live with the driving experience is great, & as long as you don't need to go to a main stealer for the servicing it's not overly expensive to own (getting between 500 & 600 miles out of a tank whilst not driving economically also helps with this!)

A well engineered, stylish, car that presses all the right buttons for me. Fun to drive, agile with superb handling. I have the 2.0 petrol M Sport so didn't expect absolute comfort, but even with the stiffer suspension set up I can still drive long distances and not be uncomfortable. One down side are the way the run flat tyres. When the partialy wear they cause a lot of road noise, so bad that I actually thought I had a wheel bearing running at one point. Not quite sure why BMW chose this option, maybe to cut production costs in not having to provide a spare? Otherwise I have put 43000 miles on it in 26 months and have had absolute trouble free motoring.

Fantasti\c drive and handling-fast and safe- let down by horrendous tyre wear just on inner inch of tread, tracking checked and is fine.tyre needs changing when 95% of tyre is nearly full tread.
Bluetooth phonne prep extremely poor- bad reception/road noise/
Sat nav needs throwing out of window- a £100 Tom Tom is more efficient
Ride quality on this model very poor
Servicing is great and inexpensive though
loses as much money as any othe cars
Wouldnt recommend this model although BMW are superb
Buy a 3L or 2.5L to get best value and ads much fun

A very practical car . It is a cabriolet with steel roof but this limits boot space significantly when the roof is down. However you can't have it all ways ! Ride comfort is reasonable - the low suspension and run flat tyres give a harsh ride on roufgh roads but otherwise excellent comfort. It is very quiet and has many safety features. Economy for a 2 litre engine is good with the BMW efficient dynamics. All in all a recommended car - except in snow. Forget it and drive a FWD car.

A real drivers car.
Poor ride due to the run-flat tyres on A & B roads.
Poor grip in ice & snow, made worse by run-flats, but at all other times very rewarding to drive. 320i petrol engine lacks torque.
Overall it looks good, the interior is roomy with good fit and finish.
Needs to have a higher specification as standard.
After all above, I still want to get in it and drive it.

A an all round lovely looking car with excellent styling and useful toys, such as CD storage, rubbish in the recent snow as BMW's rep for being like that and it being an automatic were not conducive to Baltic type endurance test, but for the other 48 weeks of the year when i don't expect snow nice to drive, nice to play with and nice to be seen in.

Car is a convertible, so although some practicalities have been sacrificed for the opening hard top roof, all in all I'm very happy with it. The problem that took a few weeks and several trips back to the dealer to fix was a leaky roof seal. However, since it was fixed, it's been no problem at all. Performance good, roof great, ride good.

Regular servicing has meant that I haven't had an issues with my car in 5 years. it covers in excess of 400 miles each week. the low profile tyres do puncture easily though. I spend on average around ł100-ł150 pounds a week on fuel. spare parts through the main dealer are ridiculous but I have sourced many through ebay.

It is a 330 convertible with sports suspension and 18" wheels. Well screwed together. Premium materials used inside. Reliable. A drivers car but consequently short on comfort over rough roads. Plenty of satisfaction in owning it as well as driving it. Very pleased with it. Its a fun car but not a family car.

Great badge, very poor overall. Its cramped, has a poor ride for a near £30k car and low levels of std equipment. I was not stupid enough to order it new, but this was the only pool car available when I last vehicle exceeded its annual milage. One redeeming feature is a superb 2.0d engine and auto box.

It is a joy to drive, although a little uncomfortable on a long journey. Having said that, it is the M-Sport model with the stiffer suspension. Otherwise, I have really enoyed owning it. If I bought another 3 Series coupe, it would be a smaller engine model (not 335i again) as road tax over £400 now.

57-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

An exceptional car but fuel consumption is poor compared to BMW`s claims and an intermittent engine noise on start up has never been `found` and hence explained by dealer. Run-flat tyres seem more jittery and noisy than my previous 3 series standards, but still this is the best car i have owned.

Extremely overrated, and for this I blame motoring journalists who get fixated on the car's strengths (handling), because it matches their own priorities as enthusiasts. They don't take give enough weight to the real-world concerns such as comfort, space, quality of dealers, and practicality.

Its a good car but bmws are not as well built as they used to be. My e46 ws better than the e90. Bmw cutting corners? Also ride quality with RFT is terrible. Positives, the handling is top of the class and its very difficult to get such a powerful diesel except with Audi.

Had to have a new auto gearbox this year, starter motor and rear wiper motor last year but all covered under warranty. For a 3litre turbo diesel with 204 bhp it is remarkably economical. had tyres this year front and back for ł450 which has tranformed the ride and noise.

Looks good. Drives good. Image good. Ride ruined by runflat tyres. and no space to fit spacesaver wheel and tyre. Recently got a punture on the runflat tyres. Tyre pressure did not go below 25PSI yet nobody would repair the undamaged tyre (apart from a small nail).

I think the new BMW series is overarated, it is on it's third clutch havind done less than 50,000 miles. Ride comfort is no better than modern fords, rear space and boot space limited and Main dealer prices are exceptionally high (£160.00 per hour labour)
