What a load of rubbish! The world’s biggest industrial shredder, which can chew up an amazing 450 scrap cars an hour, has been installed at the Associated British Ports terminal in Newport, Wales.

The £10million mega-machine can process up to 350 tonnes of metal an hour. And it is so large that it has to be plugged directly into the National Grid to draw sufficient power.

Plastics, rubber, carpet fibre and glass from vehicles are automatically separated, so they can be sent away to be recycled. The remaining metal is then shredded to be sold around the globe.
