The styling guru behind the Range Rover, Discovery and new Freelander has vowed he'll never pen another car!

Geoff Upex, design director of Land Rover, says he is walking away from cars forever when he retires at Christmas. After 23 years of service at Land Rover and Rover, the 54-year-old believes "the job is done", adding that not only will he never draw another Land Rover, but he won't pen cars for any other auto manufacturer, either.

"That's it - I feel I've done all I can with Land Rover, and it's time now for someone else to take over," he told Auto Express. "There is nothing else I can add to the cars. We have revi-talised the range - but now it needs a fresh approach."

In a glittering career, Upex has worked on the MINI, Rover 75 and MGF and, in earlier product design days, drew the first Corby Trouser Press. Gerry McGovern, Land Rover's head of Advanced Design, will take on overall responsibility.
