Criminals watch out... here comes the world’s first purpose-built police car! The striking Carbon Motors E7 is America’s newest weapon in the fight against vehicle crime. And under that aggressive bodywork lurks the latest hi-tech law enforcement kit.
A 360-degree interior and exterior video surveillance system – with night vision, of course – monitors the car’s surroundings and keeps an eye on rear occupants. For the officers, there’s also a head-up display, biometric ignition and automatic number plate recognition equipment.
High-speed pursuits won’t be a problem – beneath the lightweight, bulletproof aluminium bodywork is a 300bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbodiesel sourced from BMW. That propels the Carbon E7 from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a 155mph top speed. What’s more, the engineers behind the project claim their creation will manage 250,000 miles without a hitch. And law-breakers would be well advised not to ram the E7 in an effort to aid their getaway. Its tough structure can withstand a 75mph rear impact!
