The world's first wooden supercar has arrived!

Here's a supercar that goes against the grain! Called the Splinter, it’s the world’s first wooden supercar. The model is part of a research project at North Carolina State University in the US, which is aimed at finding new uses for wood-based materials.

As well as a composite timber body, the car has a walnut and cherrywood steering column and suspension components made from ash, walnut and hickory. It uses a mid-mounted 4.6-litre supercharged V8 that could take it to 240mph.
