Engine Mercedes Races 611 Wins 114 Titles 9
Last year 9th (5pts)

Big news for Williams over the winter was the appointment as technical director of Pat Symonds, who masterminded world titles at Benetton (later Renault) for Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso. It also axed Pastor Maldonado and signed Felipe Massa from Ferrari.

The consensus is that the Brazilian’s best days are behind him, so he may struggle against fast and committed Finn Valtteri Bottas in the other car. Another plus is the arrival of Mercedes engines, but like many other midfield teams, the key will be keeping up with in-season development.

Our verdict: 2014 looks like being Williams’ best chance yet to end its recent slump in form. The team could move up the midfield past the likes of Toro Rosso and Sauber.
