The Marussia F1 team, run on a shoestring budget by Manor Motorsport, based in Banbury, Oxon, has edged better-funded Caterham in 2012 and 2013 – although neither team has scored points.

But Marussia continues to work under huge pressure: it turned up several days late to pre-season testing in Jerez, and managed only limited running with its new car.

There are no changes in the cockpit, with Ferrari protege Jules Bianchi again hoping to get noticed, while Brit Max Chilton looks to add pace to 2013’s consistency: he was the only driver to finish every race.

Our verdict: New technical regulations are bad news for the backmarker teams, and Marussia will have to dig deep to keep up with the rest of the field.
