The biggest “own car” claim for 2011/12 was from Khalid Mahmood – Labour MP for Birmingham, Perry Bar – who charged taxpayers £12,783.80 over the course of the year.

To put that in perspective, that’s enough money to buy a brand-new 58mpg 1.2-litre Ford Fiesta Edge (£9,725) and pay for 29,348 miles’ worth of petrol at current prices.

Or you could pick up a 63mpg 1.0-litre Volkswagen up! (£7,995) and pay for 45,994 miles’ worth of petrol at current prices.

Alternatively, you could use that money to buy a brand new 47.9mpg 1.2-litre Dacia Sandero Access (£5,995) and run it for more than 53,840 miles.

In other words, Mahmood claimed enough money to buy a brand-new car and enough petrol to run it for five years. The other top 10 own car expense claims are listed below:

A Pakistan native who has a way of conducting pakistani politics in the uk. He has been involved in many situations in which his integrity has been questioned. Using House of Commons headed paper to give a reference to a group of fraudsters so they could get a 50 million loan from a bank and not give anything back. Khalids excuse, I was new to the job and didnt know what I was doing. He is not fit to be a MP and should be removed. Perry Bar constituents have been done a injustice with him as their MP. LABOUR PARTY SHOULD REMOVE HIM QUICK. HE IS INCOMPETENT AT DOING THE JOB HE IS SUPPOSED TO DO, WHICH IS SERVE HIS CONSTITUENTS NOT HAVE THEM PICK UP THE BILL FOR HIS SO CALLED COSTS. The list of his immoral behaviour is long. The truth is slowly coming out. HONESTY AND INTEGRITY ALWAYS OUT DOES TREACHERY AND FRAUD.
