It might have bettered SEAT's Ibiza by two places, but the Polo still falls short of Skoda's Fabia. All three share a basic platform, but it's the German car that costs the most. So it's all the more worrying that a fifth of you say it hasn't lived up to your expectations, and also that the Polo reaches the top 50 in only one category. You are most unhappy behind the wheel, slating numb handling and weedy performance. And, when it does get up to speed, you say the brakes aren't up to the job.

Mr Danny Cahill - Cornwall“Very reliable and economical but very expensive to service at main dealers and parts expensive, too. Suspension wear on a very low mileage car I felt was unacceptable, too.”
Mr Scott Dawkins - Leics“Reliable but a lot of small niggles such as rattles, suspension clonks, etc.”
Mr Ward - Leeds“A huge disappointment given it was my first foray into a manufacturer that is touted as having high reliability.”
Lisa Hopkins - Surrey“It's OK, the ride quality is bumpy and the maintenance costs are very high, but it is reliable”
Mr Richard Carter - London“Serves its purpose very well as a faithful second car but unsuitable for serious motoring because it is too small and not powerful enough for long distances on the motorway.”
