Vauxhall Vectra (new)

Good, but could do better. That'Â’s the message from owners of Vauxhall'Â’s best-selling Vectra. Practicality is rated above average, while running costs are surprisingly low for such a big car. However, there are clearly areas which need attention if the model is to match FordÂ’'s Mondeo, which is 10 places higher. You tell us that handling isn'Â’t sharp or accurate enough, while the controls need to be better weighted; a finishing position of 86th in the ease of driving sector is a disappointment.

Your Quotes

“I like it a great deal. It isn't the last word on wheels, but it does the job very nicely. It is good to drive, comfortable, spacious and frugal. I'm really pleased with it!”

Mr Dominic Knill - Gloucester

“I have only had it for seven months and it is my first diesel. I am converted to diesel now, having been a sceptic previously. It is economical but has plenty of oomph when needed. There are no squeaks or rattles and it is a very comfortable car to drive. It has lived up to all my expectations, and having previously owned an Omega which I loved, my expectations were high.”

Mr Stephen Smith - Leics

“Generally a solid reliable car - good drive & economy. Let down by silly persistent faults that main dealers "cant find". Left with the feeling that you get what you pay for - so dint expect too much.”

Mr Paul Longden - Bedford

“Nice car with plenty of toys, good motorway cruiser but uses too much oil.”

Mr Malcolm Hudson – Tyne and Wear

“Have only had car for two months. Pleased overall, but MPG seems to differ considerably from what manufacturer states.”

Mr Les Morgan - Liverpool

“It covers long distances at a rapid pace in reasonable comfort and exceptional economy. Reliability has been 100 per cent. I couldn't ask for much more for £12k.”

Mr David Jupp – South Yorks

“Generally a good car with a superb engine (3.0 V6 diesel), spoilt only by poor ride quality on UK urban roads, and one or two build quality problems, mostly fixed on delivery. Service operations at my particular dealership were chaotic.”

Mr Chris Bennell - Oxfordshirte

“Practical, spacious, comfortable and ideal for the size of our family it is LIFE model but it has some practical extras as standard and useful little gadgets.”

Mr James Milner - Sheffield

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

Another year of bitter disappointment for Vauxhall sees it retain a miserable 28th place. While they continue to sell well, you say the firm’'s cars just aren’'t satisfying to own and drive on a day-to-day basis. Vauxhall'’s worst rating comes in the ease of driving rank, but other finishes are mid-table at best. It’'s a sad fact that the highest placed top 100 model – the Omega – is no longer in production.
