Driver Power 2007

11Mazda 388.26%

Mazda 3

Last yearÂ’'s compact family class winner, the 3 has proved one of the most surprising Driver Power successes. While it canÂ’'t match many rivalsÂ’ strengths straight out of the showroom, given time to prove itself you tell us it has a lot to offer. Just missing out on a top 10 position, the Mazda charts between 10th and 40th in every category. The handling is spot on, while strong stopping power is also praised. Next year, weÂ’ll be able to see if the firebreathing 256bhp MPS can boost the performance rating, too.

Your Quotes

“A very practical family car. It's a shopping cart, comfortable long-distance cruiser and spirited B-road performer. It's a bit of a bargain, too!”

Mr John Palmer - Northumberland

“It is a great driver's car, probably the best I have ever owned. The Sport specs are excellent and you get a great deal for your money, arguably the best car in its class for that! I would buy another, but probably the saloon version next time, not the hatchback. ”

Mr Graeme Shinwell - Boness

“Very pleased with the car. It has plenty of room inside. If there is one criticism it would have to be the road noise.”

Suzanne Fisher - Gwynedd

“Excellent medium family car. The VVT-i engine makes driving a doddle, and the extra power is there if you rev hard. It looks good, too!”

Mr Jim Rushby - Bucks

“Performance is reasonable but sometimes I find myself really having to push the engine to overtake and get the speed up when joining the motorway. Suffers from understeer when pushed and not as comfortable as I expected it to be, especially as the Focus it shares the suspension set up with is so much better. ”

Mr Martin Barrow - Wigan

“It's the best car I have owned, with a good range of mod cons for the price. I would recommend this car.”

Mr Simon Green - Bristol

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

A brilliant top five position for one of JapanÂ’'s top firms. Coming under the Ford umbrella, Mazda has finished a full 15 places ahead of its parent firm. Even more satisfying is that the one place gained in our chart has been at the expense of premium brand BMW. With a broad range and plenty of new models on the horizon, Mazda will be hoping to continue the upward trend in 2008.
