It's hard to pigeonhole Volvo'Â’s saloon S40 and estate V50. Based on the same platform as FordÂ’'s Focus, they are too small to fall into the compact executive class, but too expensive to compete with mainstream family cars. But this doesn'Â’t seem to bother S40 or V50 drivers, who are generally satisfied. The small size has led to some low marks for practicality, while running costs are also steep. A mid-table reliability record is disappointing, too, but you tell us few cars are more comfortable.
