Once again, Ford owners have informed us that when it comes to braking systems, the old-shape Focus, Mondeo, Fiesta and C-MAX underperform. You also told us that the first-generation Focus has lacklustre performance, poor comfort and below-par build quality.

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

Having made progress in 2008, Ford has dropped back again this year. It’s 12 places higher than rival Vauxhall, and its cars are rated for practicality and handling. Yet owners’ main gripe is reliability.
