Running a sports car is never cheap, but owners said the amount it costs to keep the rotary-engined Mazda on the road is just too high.

Plus, despite an extra pair of doors to help access, you reckoned the RX-8 is no more practical than a traditional two-door.

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

It’s fallen one place, yet Mazda is still in the top 10. The blot in its copybook is 23rd position for running costs, although it’s offset by a fifth-placed rank in both the handling and braking categories.
