Having been told the job would take about an hour, I decided to wait while Motorvogue SEAT in Northampton fitted (under warranty) the replacement ECU that was to extinguish the Cupra’s rogue emissions warning light. In fact three hours had passed before I finally got to turn the key in the ignition and watch the cluster of warning lights illuminate briefly and then, much to my relief, all extinguish together, but at least the problem was fixed. Or so I thought. The very next day the light came back, and it’s been on ever since.
Despite this, the Cupra has continued to perform faultlessly. In fact, if anything, I’m more impressed with it than ever after the way it remained remarkably unfazed by the slimy winter sheen that seemed to coat every mile of tarmac I covered while travelling around the country visiting family and friends over Christmas.
As I write, the Leon is due to go back to the dealer in a few days’ time so they can have another crack at getting the light to go out for good. In the meantime, if you’ve had a similar problem with a SEAT, I’d be interested to hear from you. Drop me a line at fastfleet@evo.co.uk
