With parent company Volkswagen at the helm, the name Skoda has become a byword for top quality at a cut price. But can a no-nonsense budget car firm really hope to succeed in the image-conscious saloon sector? Even mainstream manufacturers such as Nissan and Peugeot struggle to shift their executive models at this end of the market, so what hope is there for Skoda?
Well, the Czech manufacturer seems confident - with good reason. Its new saloon is based on an elongated VW Passat platform, so is already assured of many of the right ingredients for taking on the competition. Yet the ace up the Superb's sleeve will be price. On sale from early May, starting at an estimated
