If you don't believe in reincarnation, now could be a good time to start. Nissan's ageing Primera has been reborn, and this latest generation model promises all the benefits of a 21st century lifestyle.

After years of making capable cars which were overlooked because of their styling, Nissan has taken a radical step. The new Primera, which we first drove in Japan in November, has burst from its understated shell as one of the most adventurous and technologically advanced designs around. Due here in March, it's Japan's first real contender in a class dominated by the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Vectra - and Auto Express tried it out for the first time on UK roads.
