| Due to the lightweight construction, the BB1 tips the scales at less than 600kg, even with heavy lithium-ion battery packs sitting under the rear seats | |

Rival: Smart EV
With a range of 71 miles and acceleration from 0-30mph in 6.5 seconds, the Smart EV is a direct competitor. A few will be leased here in spring, followed by a production car in 2011.

Over hyped and over priced no doubt? Watch this space!
If we all change to electric power how many more co2 emitting power stations would we need?
Tony
Nice idea I guess but far too outlandish and off the wall for my tastes, and I suspect pretty much all of the British contingent. as well. Seats don't look very comfortable either.
Don't like it.
and what's the deal with rear passengers having to wrap their legs around the front seats anyway? We're not all contortionists you know. That sounds not only very undignified, but extremely uncomfortable, even for a journey of 50 yards.
Ouch!
It is vile, austere and it's technology will be out moded by the time it reaches production (if it does). Hopefully the people of Europe will tell them we don't want this junk to be the shape of things to come. Do Peugeots designers live in an alternative universe where ugly, oddly designed, impractical cars are a good thing? The can shove it. Also the power station comments are valid, can someone conduct a study and see if there really is significant benefit to us all driving plastic bodied, battery driven cars that look like a bastardised 1950's vision of the future but with LED headlights. It's a thumbs down from me
I like the clear roof and solar cell aplication, but, if you change the controls to "bike like", why not slide or swivel over the controls to make it universal for left or right hand driving. On the style, it looks like it has been sat on, a sort of praying mantis head. A range of 71 miles!. It will take more than this effort to temp me out of my 2.5 ltr.
Okay it is not for everyone but for those living in a city or nearby, it is perfect! Most of my journeys are under 10miles (shopping, work, collecting kids from school, doctors, and going out). Even the airport is about 30miles round trip! I have to admit the seats behind look a bit weird, but from what I see they do look like bike seats (passenger mind the driver) still not bad and no different than sports cars but where it is very resourceful in the space by giving me extra space for my groceries.
In terms of exciting design, Peugeot has turned a corner, and the BB1 is its bravest project yet. Combining stand-out styling, zero emissions and space for four, what’s not to like? Best of all, the components, such as the Michelin-developed hub motors, are available off the shelf right now. The French company is in the process of gauging public opinion on its radical redesign of the traditional city car, and the feedback is already positive.
