I saw one of these things yesterday - and it looks even uglier in the flesh than it does in photos! The prominent Dodge Nitro inspired slab nose and frumpy rear end makes it look like 2 cars from different designers which have been grafted together.
Yes it has remarkable mpg figures and a clever panoramic roof option - but that's all. The interior is fussy and the 'SLS inspired' dash is lop-sided and sits asymmetrically above the centre console, whereas in the SLS it is far better integrated and infintely more harmonious.
Little point in having such capable performance features if the rest of the car is such an ugly duckling.
It's amazing that the SLK has been so comprehensively improved over its predecessor, yet still leaves us cold. The 350 appeals with its seductive looks and aggressive sound, but the dynamics don’t live up to the promise of the sporty styling. And although this car offers serious performance, lesser models are easier to live with day-to-day. If you’re after a truly hardcore version, we’d wait for the SLK 55 AMG.
