Keen pricing and one of the most practical interiors ever made have not seen the car hit the sales targets Fiat had hoped for, though. So the Multipla has been revised to give it a boost.
For the 2003 model year, every variant receives disc brakes all-round, while the ELX also gets body-coloured bumpers and new velour trim. Detail changes across the range include a new electronic boot release, larger airbags, adjustable rear head restraints and firmer suspension. The audio system has been improved so it is compatible with Fiat's infotainment system, CONNECT, while a new selection of metallic colours is on offer, too. From behind the wheel, these upgrades don't revolutionise the way the people carrier drives. That is no bad thing, though, as it is still competent and good fun. Best of the engines has to be the punchy 1.9-litre JTD diesel tested here, which combines lively performance with 44mpg fuel economy.
The Multipla is a car you either love or hate - and those who love it will find it remains one of the most practical and spacious machines around.
