Take a capable hatchback, add a huge boot and what do you get? In SEAT's case it's the Cordoba, and this new version will hit the showrooms next spring. We jumped in early to see what the curious supermini saloon is all about.

Outside, the newcomer bears all the hallmarks of modern day SEATs. The front end is identical to the Ibiza's, while a high rear waistline mimics the style of the previous version, axed in 1999. Unfortunately, the distinctive lofty bootline restricts rearward vision while parking. Sadly, the newcomer will not spawn a two-door coup

FIRST OPINION

The Cordoba is a fine car with a huge boot, but it's difficult to see who will buy a saloon version of the Ibiza. The strong engine line-up appeals, but poor loading access and tight rear space limit practicality. If you like the look and don't want a hatch, this SEAT might make sense. Shame there's no coup
