As if pigeon-holing a car into a specific sector of the market wasn't hard enough already, Chrysler claims it has created yet another niche: the "Cross Tourer". But if the US giant's new Pacifica is not an SUV, off-roader, MPV or an estate, precisely where does it fit in?

Although a front-wheel-drive version will be available from launch, Chrysler predicts that most buyers will choose the all-wheel-drive model, even if it's only for the image. As with the Crossfire coup

FIRST OPINION

    Although it isn't the most likely parts bin to raid, Mercedes' E-Class has spawned an interesting off-road/estate crossover. Performance from the Pacifica's V6 isn't sparkling, but the ride is excellent and refinement is first rate.
