Small is beautiful at Mitsubishi. The firm has just launched an all-new city car in its home market, and the model is already its biggest seller. When you look at the specification, it's not hard to see why!

Priced from ΂£5,750, the eK Sport rivals Daihatsu's Charade and Daewoo's Matiz. With a three-cylinder 660cc turbo, the four-seater offers 64bhp and a four-speed auto box. Its 850kg kerbweight means brisk acceleration, and the cabin is surprisingly refined and well trimmed for such a small car. The ride is comfortable, too, in part due to the generous 2,340mm wheelbase, and ABS and twin airbags are included.

An amazingly spacious boot is capable of carrying enough luggage for a weekend away, and if you need more room, the rear seats fold down easily to offer a virtually flat load area.

Mitsubishi UK maintains it has no plans to import the eK Sport officially. However, with a growing British market for small, practical city cars, that's a situation we think could soon change.

FIRST OPINION

The eK Sport is one of the most inventive and well styled city cars we have driven. Its auto box is smooth, while the turbo engine provides a remarkable turn of speed. We reckon it would work well on UK roads.
