This puts off all but the richest drivers - yet, believe it or not, the Rangie still isn't posh enough for some. They can't bear the thought of having an identical car to the neighbours, and demand something bespoke. Land Rover is only too willing to take their money - and that's why the company invented the Autobiography scheme.
If you see the special badge on the bootlid, you can rest assured the owner has spent at least another £4,200 on options. This is the price of the cheapest item on the Autobiography menu: a pair of TV screens and a DVD multichanger located in the boot.
You could also add a £1,000 special wood finish such as the Piano black in this car, and order bespoke leather trim for £2,650. If you'd prefer the outside to get noticed first, there's a palette of 23 special paint shades that are a 'mere' £5,350 extra. If this is still too common, Land Rover will paint it any colour you like. Customers have brought in lipstick, handbags and Aston Martins to get a match. The cost? £10,000. As you'd expect, the workmanship is impeccable.
Despite all this outlay, the driving experience is unchanged, except for the jealous stares from other Rangie owners. For some, this alone will be priceless.
