Nissan Pathfinder T-spec

Does Nissan really need another SUV? The Japanese company already produces five off-roaders, and the launch this week of the new Pathfinder makes it six. Replacing the five-door Terrano, the Pathfinder slots into the range along-side the X-Trail to sit above the Patrol, Terrano three-door and Navara. The luxury Murano remains the flagship 4x4.

Replacing the five-door Terrano, the Pathfinder slots into the range along-side the X-Trail to sit above the Patrol, Terrano three-door and Navara. The luxury Murano remains the flagship 4x4.

Aimed at Land Rover's Discovery and the Toyota Land Cruiser, it's more than capable of holding its own. The newcomer's size gives it great presence, though it neatly avoids looking cumbersome. The imposing grille and headlamps link it to the rest of Nissan's off-road family, but upright rear door handles and clean lines are influenced by the 350Z coup

FIRST OPINION

    Although competing in a popular segment, the Pathfinder has all the right ingredients to succeed. With butch styling, plenty of space and a robust cabin, Nissan now has a genuine alternative to the Land Rover Discovery.

    And most importantly, the newcomer is good value for money compared to its rivals.
