* Economy: 34.6mpg

What will it cost you?
The price of the iQ2 isn’t a misprint – it really does cost as much as a proper supermini. Our test car was also fitted with optional leather trim and sat-nav, taking the total to an incredible £12,135.

Low running costs lessen the impact, as the iQ is exempt from road tax and returns impressive fuel economy. However, after three years and 30,000 miles, the Toyota is predicted to retain only 36.6 per cent of its new price – so it’s difficult to justify financially.

Extra details:Toyota airbags
Safety is paramount in small cars, and the iQ is equipped with a full quota of airbags – including a world first rear windscreen bag. In total, the Toyota features nine bags, which is seven more than the entry-level Smart!

Model tested:
Toyota iQ
WHY? With its distinctive looks, tiny dimensions and frugal engine, the iQ is truly unique.
AT A GLANCE:

You need to fold back seats to get any load space in Toyota, and even then your luggage isn’t covered. Plus, the rev counter is tiny, and appears cheap and dated.
