With its newly updated, snarling front end – derived from the Lancer Evoluton X rally car – the Colt is facing up to a bright future. And the good news is that almost everything else about Mitsubishi's baby passes muster too.
That high MPV-style roof means space for four with ample headroom and while boot room is tight, you can slide the rear seat forward for more luggage space. The cabin is neatly styled and well made, while the steering is precise and the handling surefooted.Â
Weighing in at £7,799, the entry-level CZ1 is the best of the bunch, coming with a rev-hungry 74bhp 1.1-litre three cylinder engine that sounds great, provides decent pace (0-60mph in 12 seconds) and returns 50mpg. It all adds up to a likeable and capable penny-pinching city car.

got a shot in a CZT and it was unbelievable , the little turbo just wanted to keep going and the engine note was superb and the amount of "legal" modifications you can do to this turbo is unreal. truly a superb car from a truly superb manufacturer
Noisy fun!
Just drove one of these little beasts, and it was great fun! Predictably noisy and lumpy on broken surfaces, its main point of note was the semi-auto gearbox! I had never seen such a thing when I first sat in the car - it looks like a standard four-on-the-floor at first glance - but a few seconds experimentation got the thing started and into reverse (you must put on the seatbelt, put your foot on the brake, and have the 'box in 'N' before it will start)! Going forwards, you can just leave it in full auto mode, or toggle the whole thing into clutchless semi-manual, where you tap the lever forward or back to change up or down. Even in semi-manual mode, the car changes into 1st and dips its clutch if you come to a standstill in higher gear, so it's pretty fool-proof! The great thing about the full auto is that you can just floor it when the lights go green and it would leave a Ferrari standing! It feels much faster than 0-60 in 12 sec, but because you can't stall the engine or miss a gearchange it always delivers the goods! Childish I know, but it makes great progress!
