Audi TTS

Extra power, sharper steering and better dynamics add extra thrills to the already superb TT

June 2009

ANOTHER car from the current line-up to appear in our greatest quattros special, this is the most involving TT yet. It takes inspiration from the original Sport model, but isn’t a limited-run special; instead it’s a fully fledged production car.

The TTS comes as a coupé or roadster with either manual or twin-clutch S tronic gearboxes, and looks fantastic. Deeper side sills, chrome mirrors, larger air intakes and a lower ride height provide a more aggressive and sporty edge. The superb cabin feels special, too, but what sets it apart is the driving experience.

Sharp steering, excellent traction and superb body control make the TTS more thrilling than the standard car. It’s more communicative than any TT before it, and the excellent Magnetic Ride dampers ensure ride quality isn’t compromised in the pursuit of dynamic perfection.

Performance is strong, too. Revisions to the 2.0-litre turbo have delivered an extra 71bhp, while torque is up from 280Nm to 350Nm. The result is punchy and flexible power delivery, while its retuned exhaust gives a raspy soundtrack. Add a stylish and beautifully detailed interior, and you can see why this is such a desirable package.
