Some would say it's an obvious choice - but it's hard to bet against the new 458 Italia stealing the show in Frankfurt. And with 570bhp at a heady 9,000rpm it's not just the stunning looks that are going to send showgoers into a spin.
An all new 4.5-litre flat crank, direct injection V8 not only provides a superbike-esque specific output figure of 127bhp per litre, but CO2 emissions have been cut as well to 320g/km. Coupled with a new 7-speed double-clutch gearbox borrowed from the California, Ferrari claims a 0-60mph sprint of less than 3.5 seconds.
The wind tunnel played a significant part in the shaping of the 458, with the resulting slippery shape and active aerodynamics reducing fuel consumption and increasing performance. First examples are set to hit
UK roads early next year. As yet, there's no word on price, but as the
car is even faster than the F430 Scuderia - priced from £172,250 - it's
unlikely drivers should expect change from less than £175,000.
