Safest supermini: Peugeot 1007

Peugeot's innovative 1007 supermini hasn't proved a hit in the sales charts, but it's the safest car in its class.

Peugeot 1007

August 2009

Only the second supermini to gain the maximum five stars for adult occupant protection, the 1007 proves you don't have to be big to be tough.

Also the first supermini to be fitted with an electric sliding side door, this innovative setup has an added benefit. Being larger than normal the door provides additional protection in both front and side impacts.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, anti-submarining seats, pre-tensioning seatbelts with force limiters and for child protection, three-point Isofix fixtures.

The VW Fox and Hyundai i10 are the top superminis for child and pedestrian protection respectively.
