Fast car special 2009

Join us as we celebrate a vintage year for speed machines

Ferrari 458 Italia

September 2009

Fans of fast cars have never had it so good. Despite the economic doom and gloom, 2009 has been a vintage year for new exotic models with jaw-dropping looks and tyre-melting power.

Lamborghini has been busy producing some stunning variations on existing models such as the LP 670-4 SV, and Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, while its arch-nemesis Ferrari has unveiled its all-new entry level model, the 458 Italia - a car that can keep pace with the Enzo around the Fiorano test track.

Following the McLaren Mercedes tie-up to build the SLR, the two manufacturers have gone their separate ways. Merc is forging ahead with its stunning retro-inspired SLS AMG 'Gullwing' supercar, while Brit firm McLaren has created its first road car since the legendary F1 in the form of the MP4-12C.

Lotus and Jaguar have also been flying the flag for Britain with the sublime Evora and XKR respectively, while the Audi R8, Maserati GranTurismo and Alfa 8C have all blown their tops.

Click on the boxes on the right to find out more about the most exciting new models to break cover this year. Here's to hoping 2010 will be every bit as good.
