I'd have the Skoda - better make, better looking, will probably be more reliable and cheaper to run.
The Seat is ugly to me - they've got suckered into copying those awful Bangle BMW designs that look ridiculous - all creases and awkward lines.
I'd have the Skoda Scout, but if I was up for a more sporty estate, I'd have a Skoda VRS estate!
Pointless!
This test is pointless! You are testing a car which is aimed at a driver who enjoys sporty handling and doesn't mind a firmer ride, against one that is clearly aimed at a driver who prefers a more mainstream car. OK, both are based on the same platform, and both are from the VW stable, and both are small estates, but why compare them? I doubt many buyers who are interested in the Ibiza would even look at the Fabia, or vice versa. The Ibiza is a sporty small car that has been given a little extra space in the back and you wouldn't buy one if you were looking for a true estate car.
Of the two I would not entertain the Skoda, simply as its looks do not appeal. The Ibiza would win hands down, irrespective of the smaller luggage area.
Oh, incidentally, my frequent experience driving a 1.6CRDi Ibiza is that the engine is anything but noisy even when starting from cold. Have you really driven the car or are you just basing the report on previous encounters with the older diesel engines?
Overall, no suprise that the Ibiza comes last as when did you ever put a SEAT first? Boring and predictable, as usual!
