You normally pay for high-performance thrills at the pumps – but not with this SEAT. The Ibiza FR TDI’s muscular 141bhp 2.0-litre diesel gives 0-62mph in only 8.2 seconds, and yet will return 60.1mpg. 

The three-door SC  looks great, although it’s not as practical as the five-door. Both offer agile handling, with a hi-tech XDS electronic limited slip diff giving strong front-end grip. The fast and efficient SEAT proves you can have pocket rocket fun on a budget.
