Renault Megane

Economy: 64.2mpg, CO2/road tax: 114g/km/£30

Renault Megane

November 2010

Technically, it’s a three-door hatch rather than a genuine coupé, but we’ll give the Mégane the benefit of the doubt on account of its sporty looks and economical engine. In 1.5-litre dCi diesel guise, it promises a combined figure of 64.2mpg – which is better than Honda’s CR-Z hybrid.

Better still, it delivers impressive returns in real-world road conditions – we recorded 53.8mpg when we tested the Mégane in April (Issue 1,109), and that included our high-performance trials. Dynamique TomTom trim also makes a lot of sense as it includes sat-nav, Bluetooth and cruise control, while the hatchback layout gives impressive practicality.
