Volkswagen's small city car should replace the Lupo and comes with a range of small-capacity engines

On sale at the end of 2011 will be VW’s eagerly anticipated new small car, which sits below the Polo. Currently known only by the concept on which it’s to be based, the up!, there’s speculation it will revive the Lupo name that was axed in 2005. 

At just under 3.5 metres long, it will be smaller than a Toyota Aygo, yet have space for four. The base model will start from around £8,500 and get a 65bhp 1.0-litre petrol, while a 75bhp 1.2-litre diesel will also be offered.

Skoda and SEAT are both expected to offer their own versions in 2012.
