The departure of the Audi S6 Avant from our test fleet is sad news for all those who enjoyed its pace and space. But it's great news for my hard-pressed wallet!
Thanks to the car's incredible thirst for super unleaded and its uncanny ability to pick up punctures - four in 10 months - the credit card had taken a bit of a bashing.
However, the sheer novelty of having an estate with supercar performance outweighed the disadvantages. Although acceleration off the line was sluggish, the engine was great at speed, and we will remember the Audi for its plus points. Few cars offer the blend of performance and practicality that our Avant delivered.
