The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is held every year in Detroit, Michigan. The event usually takes place in January at the Cobo Center, and kicks off the motoring year in style with a host of new cars making their debut.
The NAIAS is one of the most significant motor shows of the year, and sets the tone and trends of the automotive industry for the next 12 months. It frequently features the debut of significant concept cars that preview car design and technology features that we can expect to see on future production models.
The location of the Detroit Motor Show is significant, as it is the home show of the so-called ‘Big Three’ US carmakers - Chrysler, Ford and General Motors - which are all based in the Detroit area.
As a result, the Detroit show has seen the debut of the Chrysler 300C, latest Ford Focus and Chevrolet Spark, among many others.
Foreign carmakers also bring exciting new production cars and concepts to Detroit, in an attempt to beat the American manufacturers at their own games. Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, Honda and Lexus have a history of big unveils at the show, including the latest Audi A6, BMW Z4 and new Lexus IS.
