UK prices and specs announced for new 2016 Fiat Fullback pick-up

Fiat's new Fullback pick-up starts from £20,995 ex. VAT; on sale in the UK from 4th July

UK pricing and specifications have been announced for the new Fiat Fullback pick-up truck. Fiat Professional's first proper foray into the pick-up market is priced from £20,995 excluding VAT and on-the-road fees, and is available to order from 4th July 2016.

That price gets you a Fullback in entry-level SX trim with a 148bhp 2.4-litre diesel engine and a manual gearbox. Standard kit includes DAB radio, cruise control, air-conditioning, start/stop, hill hold assist and LED daytime running lights. For comparison, that £20,995 price tag is £246 more than the similarly-specced Mitsubishi L200 Titan.

Go for the higher LX spec, and you get the more powerful 178bhp 2.4-litre diesel engine and the choice of either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic 'box. Fork out £22,995 (ex. VAT) for the manual or £24,395 for the auto, and you're treated to luxuries like dual-zone climate control, bi-xenon headlights, sat-nav, lane departure warning and "Touring" suspension that's meant to be more comfortable than the standard setup.

You can also specify a range of Mopar accessories for your Fullback, including various covers and a black protector for the truck bed.

When it goes on sale on 4th July, the Fullback will rival a growing number of revised pick-up trucks, including the new Nissan Navara, Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. As many car brands are looking to the pick-up market to expand, the Fullback will also have to see off the revised Volkswagen Amarok and potential offerings from Renault and Peugeot/Citroen.

The Fullback is essentially a rebadged Mitsubishi L200, which is immediately clear from the pickup’s pointed headlights, curved windows and the crease running along the load bed. Available as a double cab only, the Fullback can carry a payload of up to 1,035kg – 15kg short of the L200 it’s based on.

If you were wondering about the name, Fiat says ‘Fullback’ comes from the “cornerstone position in rugby and American football”, to add some brutish appeal.
