Ford reveals Fiesta S1600

27 Apr, 2010 2:10pm Paul Bond

The limited edition Fiesta S1600 will aim to carry on the proud tradition of fast fords stretching back 30 years.

Ford is celebrating its pocket rocket pedigree with a limited edition, performance-oriented version of the Fiesta called the S1600.

Following in the footsteps of mighty fast fiestas of the past, like the XR2i and the RS turbo.

The S1600 certainly looks the part, with plenty of exterior changes over the Zetec S on which it’s based, including a full body kit with a new front bumper, chunky side skirts and downforce supplied via a rear diffuser and large rear spoiler.

No fast ford would be complete without the now obligatory contrasting blue and white racing stripes, and this model will also get a 17-inch white alloys, so it will certainly stand out from the crowd.

The S1600 is based on the Zetec-S, and carries over the same 1.6-litre, 118bhp Duratec petrol engine, or the 95bhp Duratorq TDCi diesel option. Customers after a power hike, can take advantage of a 20bhp engine upgrade package being offered by Mountune, the same firm that can transform the Focus RS into a power crazed RS500.

To hot up the interior, Ford has added heated, leather sports seats, a leather trimmed steering wheel and gear knob. Plus Motorsport-branded floor mats and scuff plates.

Only 650 of these special feisty Fiestas are being created, and they are available to order now priced from £16,645 OTR.

AE you are so useless at getting your facts right, I looked at these photos and thought oh it's just a Zetec S with Blue stripes and white wheels, then I got to the last photo to notice; it was a Zetec S complete with it's badges clearly on show! so what's all this about a special bodykit and large rear spoiler, that kit is standard on a Zetec S! FFS sort it out

As for the power hike anyone owning a reasonable Ford can get a power upgrade by Mountune, this is not a fast Ford it is a standard Zetec S, sack however came up with this no news drivell!

Focus_your_mind i am sorry to say I work at a Ford Dealership and YES this is a car that is been released. We can order them now. White and Performance Blue are the two colours. Its is based on the Zetec S hence the badge

How the hell can they call it an S1600 hundred, it is a Zetec S with strips which any local graphics shop can stick on your Zetec S, the engine tweak is something you can have on a Zetec S too and the wheels are standard ones painted white, they've not exactly gone over board have they! I was told it was going to have disc brakes all round, twin pipes at the rear so it looked almost like the much reported Fiesta RS and a power hike of 20 bhp, not just some bloody stripes!

Yeah i beleave the spec over and above a Standard Zetec S is
Blue or white stripe according to exterior colour
Sports Leather with Blue stiching
17" Alloys in White
Heated Screen
Front Bumper Aerofoil
Motorsport branded mats and scuff plates
Black Leather Steering wheel with blue stiching and Handbrake cover and gear knob
150 Frozen White
500 Performance Blue

I was not really discussing the extra kit, but as you mention it;

The alloys are the same just painted White
Heated screen is standard
Ok they've changed the colour of the stitching
Front bumper areofoil is standard
Scuff plates standard
Frozen White is a standard Zetec S colour

So it not a lot really is it?

You missed one thing though, it does come with heated leather seats

It doesn't even get S1600 badges, it's basically a small decal and kit upgrade for a Zetec S, nothing more!

how can ford justify £16000 plus for a moderate
performance fiesta..i paid £9500 for a year old punto sporting 6000 miles chipped to 150 bhp .....full leather elec roof and faster than the ford
cant see the point

I agree that it's basically a shameless bit of tweaking by ford taking a fantastic looking car and making it look dreadful - white alloys and viper stripes?

Also, whoever wrote this article is clearly implying that the S1600 is more powerful than the standard range,
'limited edition, high performance,' even though it isn't whatsoever.

Bluequake - speed isn't everything to everyone though, you must remember. The grande punto simply isn't a very good car.

How can anyone mention the fiesta RS Turbo when reviewing this car? Its sad that they auto express try to make people think this is in any way similar to it, although being released 20 years ago, the RS Turbo had 15bhp more, how can they not have moved forward in 20 years?!
It is waaaay over priced for its performance levels, its the same price as the Clio Cup which has over 80bhp more!
I know I'm focusing on the BHP figures but if its down to styling buy a 1.2 fiesta, ramraid the nearest Halfords store and go a nice holiday with the £4000 odd you'd save.
