Having has a peugeot 306 and a nissan micra and a peugeot 306 estate the n a ford focus diesel x plate estate.
I find the Ford Mondeo Diesel 1998c.c. Ghia very special, with all the economy- electrics-space-power-speed-quiet ride-55 mph in 6th-30 mph in fifth-gives me economy abound.
I'D LIKE SOME ONE TO SHOW ME A CAR AT £3,500 TO DO THE SAME.

A fractured turbo intercooler feed pipe has been the only mechanical problem with the car. it has had one replacement rear silencer on the exhaust system. I can regularly get 55 mpg plus on a trip to devon from london. in london, the car sometimes struggles to achieve 34 mpg (it's rated at 37 for urban) and drops much lower (high twenties) with the air con running. it also eats tyres - they wear normally (no scrubbing or other problems) but I spend far too much time getting new sets fitted (I'm on my fourth set at 66,000 miles - original fit continentals).

2010-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

I think my car is great for reliability(100%) but I have had it in to arnold clark in kilmarnock twice since new.it got 39.5 mpg when new, then 42 mpg when "run in" now its getting 37.9 mpg and they say ther's nothing wrong with it,bu------!!! As I've said it is greedy for fuel and I think something is wrong, but I've been told there is nothing wrong.37.9mpg for a 1.8 tdc??? I don't think so!!! I had a 2.0 ltr tdc before this one and it got 45mpg around town,it had 6 forward gears which lowers the revs, mine has 5 gears but should still get about 43mpg.

Excellent. The only significant niggle is that the reversing lights are inadequate: it's difficult to reverse precisely at night -- the reversing light is a white 'glow' behind you, which does not give me a sharp picture of what's there.
But, overall a cracking car -- very practical (it's an Estate), drives very well, it's big but very controlable, handles very well, it's very well 'specced' (Titanium X), good economy (over 40mpg) -- and it looks and feels good.

X-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

I bought this car second hand and ever since I have owned it has continually leaked and caused the carpets to be damp and the seats to have green mildew on them. Economy wise I get about 70 miles on £20 of petrol which is poor and I don't hammer the care ever. To sum up the Mondeo was recommended by a lot of motor magazines but I have been very disappointed with this car and will never buy another one and I will not be buying a Ford again.

Cost: 2/5
2004-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

I don't do a lot of miles but in four years and 30k miles, I have been through twelve tyres, a complete clutch, steering rack and in turn probably around 5k in repairs in just over 30k miles, not good and not too happy. Fifteen mpg and twenty five on a run, eats tyres and even general consumables are expensive, ł400.00+ for a clutch, ł80.00 for a xenon head light bulb. sometimes I wonder he dealers are getting ford and ferrari confused.

Cost: 2/5
2008-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

The car has a few minor irritations - the main one being a rain sensor failure which disables the intermittent wipe - apparently due to the mounting coming the windscreen. but this requiers a new windscreen! I have a service plan with the local ford dealer - well worth having as it spreads the cost, is cheaper than paying as you go and you get free mot - which it passed with flying colours back in december. phew!

Cost: 4/5
2006-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Its japanese quality - what more needs to be said! Urban cycle mpg is 52mpg which at ł1.40/litre is about 12p a mile. compare with petrol say 35mpg on urban at ł1.32/litre 17p a mile. diesel's are thought of to lack ummpf - not my experience so pleased with running costs. I took 3 year servicing which includes parts and labour for ł250 so feel I will be spared nissan high parts and labour costs.

FOR IT'S AGE, AND MILEGAGE (ALMOST 80,000), THIS CAR (A MONDEO ESTATE), HAS BEEN A GREAT 'WORKHORSE' WITH MINIMAL COSTS INVOLVED FOR REPLACEMENT ITEMS SUCH AS A RECENT NEW EXHAUST.
INDEED WE HAVE BEEN VERY PLEASED WITH THIS CAR AS WE NEED A LARGE SPACIOUS BOOT FOR OUR BUSINESS, AND WE WOULD CERTAINLY CONSIDER ANOTHER MONDEO ESTATE IN THE FUTURE AS THIS ONE HAS NEVER LET US DOWN (SO FAR..!)

This is the second ST220 I have owned, the first being brand new whilst this one was six months old through Ford Direct. I bought this car after having a very good experience with my previous car. The only negative factor being resale values which makes buying nearly new much more sense. I will consider Mondeo Titanium models and Focus ST/RS models when buying my next car.

Cost: 3/5
08-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

very good economical workhorse, with good interior finish. For some reason sealing strip on doors seems to get caught by all users of the car which occasional cause it to pull out of clips.
Bluetooth arrangement with radio superb, makes car phones safe to use.
Hiding MP3 connector in glove box seems pretty stupid to me as then have cable coming out the side.

2012-reg Diesel, Owner for less than a year

The ford mondeo, this is my 2nd of this generation and it's been reliable thorughout. I chose the 1.6 115psi economy diesel because I expected around 55mpg on the mixed driving I do - sadly and thus far, the unit is only marginally better than the old 2ltr durotorque engine and thats offset by the lower pence per mile I now receive for the smaller capacity.

Cost: 3/5
56-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

I have been really pleased. Servicing has been very reasonable, my 2.2litre diesel costs less to service than my previous Nissan Note 1.6 petrol. Insurance is OK too. My overall MPG is @40 which given that my driving style is quite lively is very reasonable. The Ford is very well equiped, heated/cooling seats, cruise control, climate etc.

Cost: 5/5
07-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Apart from water "ingress"!! in the boot of my st, it's brilliant. Only my second diesel (prev sri), its smooth, easy to drive, 54mpg long haul. . . but 36mpg stop start local or foot down, Usual running costs, nothing untoward. Wear in front tyres (Conti's) after being replaced last March otherwise love it. Thinking of chipping.

Cost: 4/5
54-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

This car has been brilliant, its fantastic practically, the handling is great, its easy to drive and considering its a 2 litre petrol the economy is better than expected considering its size. Also maintenance costs are reasonable. this is the 2nd mondeo estate I have owned and I would definitely buy another.

Cost: 4/5
2012-reg Diesel, Owner for less than a year

I have driven the car for just over 20,000 miles since may 2012. I have had no problems, other than stop/start doesn't always kick in until you press the clutch and release it again. No parts needed, servicing at my local ford dealer is competitive and fuel economy is very good for a family car of this size.

Cost: 5/5
S-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

My Mondeo v6 estate is a great family car whilst having a bit of power to take it out of the boring zone.
it performed multi tasks of being large enough to take the family and their gubbins, quick and wieldy enough to entertain me, cheap to buy and reliable to run - its olny down fall being low fuel economy

Cost: 2/5
2002-reg Petrol, Owner for more than 5 years

This car has now covered over 150000 miles, it is only now showing signs of getting old. With the cost of fuel it is now getting too expensive for normal people to drive, as money for fuel or servicing. this country will come to a halt one day, and only the rich will be able to travel (and politicians).

Cost: 3/5
2005-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Use the car every day for work and travel 30miles round trip. plus additional work trip up to 80 miles per day. tow the caravan in the warmer months every other weekend. Very good. usual tyres and service costs. most expensive was a clutch release bearings (inc clutch plate) ł700 inc service.

Cost: 4/5
X-reg Petrol, Owner for More than 5 years

Reliability is not to bad but the quality is nothing short of a disgrace. I have had water seeping into the boot and cabin ever since I bought the car, which of course effects the electrics. Also the economy is very poor averaging about 20mpg around town and this when driving slow and steady

Cost: 1/5
2005-reg Diesel, Owner for more than 5 years

Travelled more than 80000 miles. had new eg valve and rear wheel bearing at 10000 iles under warranty. otherwise ok since then. Excellent mpg, ford spares reasonable. tyres 18k+ on front, 25k+ on rear. some uneven wear means renewal earlier than would be otherwise.

Cost: 4/5
2004-reg Diesel, Owner for more than 5 years

It hasn't let me down yet, just a split intake hose, which reduced power, and the rear part of the exhaust fell off, also one front offside spring broke, pretty good for five years. I fill my car up every other week, this costs between ł60-ł75 pounds.

Since getting the car I have had to have a new clutch after 32000 miles but that is all it has been infor except serviceing and new tyres. The clutch cost ł1300 the yyres are ł600 per pair as it was fitted with 16 in wheels when I got it.
