Honda Civic Running Costs
Overall Average Rating: 84.56%
Position in the Top 100 cars: 62nd
Considering early models are getting on for eight years old now, this isn’t a bad result for the Civic.
A top 10 finish for reliability is great for buyers, while 31st for build is no mean feat.
However, handling, comfort and ride quality are all areas that suffer.
Manufacturer Verdict (Position: 5th)
Bosses will be concerned to see Honda drop two places in the manufacturer chart. The Top 100 podium eluded the Accord and Civic, so all hope will rest on the latest Jazz boosting the firm’s ranking next year.

My car suits me perfectly & i'm glad because I spent months choosing a car. I'm very picky about my car I like to keep it clean & everything working. I use it day in day out to commute to work everyday. It has total reliability whilst being rather sporting & stylish to look at, It always stands out from the crowd. It has a VTEC engine which gives great fuel economy, & fantastic performance from only a 1.6. The interior is well built & hard wearing & all the controls at in easy to reach places. For only a small 3 door hatchback is has huge amounts of space inside the cabin with plenty of storage locations.
The best about the car though is the smile it puts on my face whenever I get in it, & go for a drive just for the fun of it.

I paid a lot o extra money to have the best alloy wheels option sand image pack.I bought Honda because of residuals and reputation for quality. The dealer hasn't managed to stop the dashboard/windscreen rattle in 3 years. Also the alloys started to bubble and Honda are now fighting a warranty claim because the wheels have some kerbing. How this could be connected to the bubbling issue in the middle of the wheel rims is a mystery. and they won't explain why. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. Both my Hondas are due for replacement and they won't be getting my custom at a time that dealers need to shift metal.

Civic Type R is a lot of car for the money. It's not the most comfortable on longer journeys but that's not what I think it's best at, or designed for. For a hot-hatch it's very practicle, I can get my mountain bike in the back (and now push chair too). Also it has ISOfix - something not all 'family' cars have as standard. Excellent fun to drive, even after nearly 5 years of ownership. Would I change it? If I can find anything with the same amount of fun/power/drivability/cheap servicing costs maybe...

Slipping clutch at less than 30,000 miles - told due to excessive wear but will not be coverd under warranty, hard suspention, knocks and creaks had to have new break pads all round before 30,000 miles. Bad blind spots due to front windscreen pillar thickness. Rear window has no wiper and though self clearing it only clears at speed so no use for reversing out of th edrive in a morning or from a car park.
Nice styling, lovely dashboard, very flexible rear seats very willing engin and fuel economy not bad.

I have had problems with the starter motor and Mass Air Flow sensor, which the dealer fixed very quickly under the extended warranty. The Civic is roomy, comfortable and easy to drive. It cruises well on motorways and still manages to be enjoyable to drive on country roads, while returning a real-world average of 46 mpg even with my heavy right foot.

Styling still stands out though possibly dating. Lots of interior room for size of car. Not a drivers car, interior plastics cheap and mark easily. On plus side I have had some excellent service from the dealer. Shame I don't like the car - looking forward to changing it this year - it's not been an enjoyable 4 years!

I think my Honda Civic is quite a good car, thou I always said that it should have a rear wiper. I'm looking forward to the next Civic that is suppose to be coming out, I read in your magazine (Auto Express) in August 08 that a new Civic modle was in the pipe line, but I'm still waiting.

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with the car since I purchased it 18 months ago, having covered 18000 miles. It is quick, practical and economical, averaging 51 mpg in that time. The only downside is the excessive roadnoise on poor surfaces.

FABULOUS car - immensely practical and economical - let down by poor electrics and intransigent manufacturer. Power steering ECU failed during warranty and again just out of warranty. Manufacturer refused warranty / goodwill repair.

chip and lack of proper spare wheel as standard.
