You’re looking at the first official drawing of Jaguar’s SUV... sort of. This rough sketch – drawn on an iPhone art application – was done for us by Jaguar’s design director Ian Callum at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California.
We’ve kept it under wraps until now, but with the production car’s launch drawing close it’s interesting to see how an SUV was very much on Callum’s mind, even two years ago.
A designer’s job is to exaggerate proportions early on in the process, so by the time a new car reaches production a flavour of the original shape remains. As you can see from the short overhangs, low, coupé-like roof and oversized wheels, Jag’s intention was always to distance this car from Land Rover and make something far sportier.
