New 2018 Jeep Renegade facelift: UK prices and specs revealed

The refreshed Jeep Renegade will go on sale in September, with prices starting from £19,200

Jeep has confirmed UK prices and specifications for the refreshed Renegade SUV, which will go on sale in Britain in September with a sharper look and a trio of new petrol engines under the bonnet.

The facelift marks the mid-point of the Renegade’s lifespan. Introduced in 2014 as the Jeep brand’s smallest and most urban focused offering, this new version will keep things ticking over until 2022, when a second-generation version arrives and an even smaller Jeep intended to take on the Nissan Juke slots in underneath it.

The Renegade’s chunky, Wrangler inspired style has been refined with a series of minor design revisions. On the sporty Limited trim model, the changes inject a more upmarket image into the firm’s Nissan Qashqai rival. Four trim levels continue to be offered; Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk, with prices starting at £19,200.

At the front end, the Renegade gets eye-catching new headlights with daytime LED running lights, while the bumper has been redesigned with a more aggressive front apron and repositioned fog lights. New X-patterned taillights are the highlight around the back, with LED clusters available on Limited and Trailhawk versions. In total, seven different wheel options are offered, ranging from 16 inches to 19 inches for the first time.

While the minor exterior refresh is noticeable, you’ll have to look hard to find changes in the cabin. The only design change here is a new central console with a built-in smartphone holder, new storage compartments and new cupholders. Elsewhere, the Renegade’s relatively spacious interior doesn’t change, but there are new customisation schemes for customers to choose from.

Infotainment remains largely the same as well, with five-inch and 8.4-inch touchscreen display options available. The latter now features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, however.

The biggest news is the arrival of three brand new petrol engine options, injecting more power and claimed improvements to fuel economy. A 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo unit develops 118bhp and 190Nm of torque, sending drive to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Above it sits a new 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine, with 148bhp or 178bhp and developing 270Nm. Both four-cylinders are equipped with automatic gearboxes – a DDCT transmission on the 148bhp engine, and a nine-speed torque converter with all-wheel-drive on the 178bhp. However, UK buyers won't be offered the 178bhp engine.

The Renegade’s 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre, four-wheel-drive diesel offerings remain, but have been updated with selective catalytic reduction to meet Euro 6/D emissions regulations.

As ever, all-wheel-drive Renegades are prepped for off-road driving with selectable driving modes. Leave the system as is and the rear axle will disconnect from the driveline, for front-wheel-drive running on the road. Snow, plus Sand and Mud modes link the rear axle up permanently for slippery surfaces. A low-range mode and hill descent control feature as well, while Trailhawk versions get an additional setting for rocky surfaces.

Driver assistance tech has been bolstered. All Renegades now come with a lane keep warning and assist feature, and traffic sign recognition is available for the first time. Park assist has been updated, and now helps the driver out of tight spots, while forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert can all be specified.

The £19,200 starting price bags a Renegade Sport with the new 1.0-litre petrol engine and a manual gearbox, driving the front wheels. Longitude cars will be offered in four different configurations and start from £21,700 for the same 118bhp 1.0-litre unit, with the 148bhp 1.3-litre automatic priced from £23,900 and 118bhp 1.6-litre diesels kicking off from £23,200.

There are six choices in Limited trim, priced from £24,400 for the 1.0-litre petrol car. Four-wheel-drive versions begin from £28,200 for the Limited 2.0-liter diesel with 138bhp. The range topping Trailhawk is the only car equipped with a 168bhp 2.0-litre engine, paired with an automatic gearbox and a low range mode as standard. It's priced from £30,805.
