The MX-5 handles brilliantly; it is easy and great fun to drive. Its not particularly fast in a straight car but then thats no what its about. Surprisingly practical for a sports car, the weekly shop fits in the boot easily and there are lots of cubbyholes inside. Generally excellent build quality (no leaks from the roof etc and everything works perfectly) but a few squeaks and rattles are appearing and the interior is starting to look a little tired. Overall I'm extremely happy with the car.

Reliable but interior not of particularly high quality with fading of leather & plastics due to exposure to sunlight. There are also annoying rattles that cannot be permanently fixed. The drive/handling are very good but it feels underpowered & the engine has to be worked hard if you want brisk performance. Service costs have, so far, been very reasonable.

Fantastic car to look at and to drive. Nothing beats the wind in your hair thrill of an MX-5 and with low running costs it simply cannot be beaten in its class.
It may not be the fastest car about but it is fun to drive. The only downside is that only one other person can experience it at once!

Brilliant package. The solid electric roof makes what would otherwise be a fair-weather car an all-year-round option.
A dream to drive on country roads, excellent performance, balance and handling.
Exactly what the Lotus Elan should have been all those year ago.

Good car shame the brake disks corode as soon as they are made and that neither the manufacturer or main dealer care or will do anything. (5 years old and 5th set of front disks and third set of rears for corrosion)

The MK1 MX5 is a superb car, although under powered the handling and lightness make up for this. Every time you get into the MX5 it puts a smile on your face especially when the roof is down.

Superb handling, fun to drive, adequate power for normal UK roads.
At 6foot 3 I wouldn't mind it being about 10% bigger!
