57-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

This is a cracking little car. I have had a good ownership experience, the car has been reliable and apart from needing a new windscreen (stone chip damage) and replacement driver's seat belt (under warranty) everything has been good. I average nearly 40 mpg and after 17,000 miles the tyres are only 50% worn and the brake pads only 20% worn. This is even in light of me using the full abilities the car has to offer on a frequent basis. When the time comes I'll be very sorry to see the car go.

2011-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

No failures, breakdowns or issue, but notice that the six-speed manual is somewhat rough, slow to warm, with some synchro "graunch" particularly when cold. mazda view is that this is "within tolerances" . Given a (narrow) majority of short journey's fuel economy is good. 40+mpg possible on a-road/motorway runs. dealer servicing is significantly more expensive than my previous car (focus st170), which is disappointing. mazda claim to be a "premium" brand... ;).

Ive owned mx5 cars for 4 years now my last one was 9yrs old when I traded it in. there was nothing wrong with it I came into some money so treated myself to a 3mth old ex demo mx5 I loved my old car but this one is far far superior to the last one. ive never been let down and it drivers like a dream it also looks fab. On a full tank of fuel I can get on average 39mpg ive not had my first service yet so not sure what the cost will be.

59-reg Petrol, Owner for Less than a year

Great car, exactly as I expected. This is my third MX5. Maybe the engine could be a little more efficient, especially given the latest generation of petrol engines that are appearing onto the market. My car is only 6 months old and has done 6000 miles, but the mpg is a lot lower than the official figures suggested it would be. Hopefully this will improve as the mileage increases and the engine loosens up.

Cost: 4/5
2012-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Had no problems apart from a misted up boot light which was quickly dealt with. The car is not particularly cheap to run as car tax is quite expensive and fuel economy isn't wondrous and tyres are seriously expensive(I know this from previous car, same model have not put new tyres on this one) but I didn't buy it because I thought it was economical I bought it for fun! .

Cost: 3/5
2012-reg Petrol, Owner for less than a year

I have had a mazda mx5 before and this new car is no different. fully reliable, smooth to drive and beautiful and smart to look at. very comfortable and a dream to drive. I used it nearly every day for motorway journes which are generally about 18 miles per day and at weekends to plymouth, approx 70 miles and depending on what speed I do it is very economical.

Cost: 5/5
2011-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

I have never had a moments trouble with this car since the day I bought it. At 28.4 the mpg could be better however I did expect this when I bought it. the only part I have bought was a windscreen wiper blade which cost ł25, which it has to be said was a bit pricey. I can therefor assume that other parts will be equally expensive.

Cost: 3/5
2012-reg Petrol, Owner for less than a year

It is too easy to catch the interior light and there is no feature to automatically have the light go out when the car is locked... the light being left on is a major drain on the battery and can result in being stranded in the car park! Averaging 32 -33 mpg on a motorway was hoping for a little more.

Cost: 3/5
2009-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

This is the best purchased new car I've owned. nothing has gone wrong or required adjustment (apart from normal service items) in just over 3 years of ownership. Running costs as expected from sales literature. for a 2ltr engine, fuel consumption is good with service & parts not excessively priced.

Cost: 5/5
2010-reg Petrol, Owner for less than a year

Even after it has not been used for some time, it starts first time each time. since purchasing it there have been absolutely no problems at time of writing. It is a very thirsty car when in town and traffic falling to around 24 mpg but, on a long run this will climb to around the 30 mpg mark.

Cost: 3/5
2004-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Have owned this vehicle for 16 months and so far it has been great, has not let me down to date. Bit thirsty if it's driven as it should be driven but not too bad on average. mx-5 parts are quite expensive if original parts are bought, but there are cheaper equivalents available.

Cost: 3/5
04-reg Petrol, Owner for Less than a year

This is my third MX-5! My last car was a Lotus Elise, which was brilliant as well but much harder to live with. I had to credit crunch myself and move to a second hand MX5 which cost me approx 25% of the price of my Lotus. The MX5 is probably 80% as good though!

Cost: 5/5
2009-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

This is my 4th mx5 - part of the reason I buy mazda is the reliability. I feel that some parts seem expensive for what they are I.e. replacement wiper blades but I do like to use genuine parts.service gap of ł12k miles seems less than some other brands now.

Cost: 3/5
2010-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

So far, nothing has gone wrong. battery went flat once during the cold weather. It is not as economical as it could be. I only managed to get average of 31-32mpg on a mixture of town and dual carriageway journey compared to the 38mpg manufactur's claim.

Cost: 3/5
2009-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

Always starts first time, touch wood. Services & mot at main dealer can be expensive, rather than the customer, ringing round to get a best price and then asking them to match it, I think they should find out what it is and match it anyway.

Cost: 3/5
2011-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

It has never broken down and always starts ok :-). It uses more fuel than I would like, but my commuting route is not ideal (I.e. not very fuel friendly). other than that it is not an expensive car to run. service costs are reasonable.

Cost: 3/5
2011-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

It is the most reliable car I have ever had, not very good in bad weather. Running cost these days are high no matter what you drive but the mazda isn't one of the cheapest cars to run, it's more for pleasure in the nice weather.

Cost: 2/5
2010-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Nothing at all has ever gone wrong with it, I am very happy with it, but, it is a 2nd car, used very infrequently, and only when the weather suits. I am quite satisfied with the running costs, but again, it is barely run-in yet.

Cost: 5/5
2010-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Nothing has gone wrong. was a recall for the bluetooth module however I had no problems with it before or after the recall. Would be nice if mpg was better but I get what the manufacture states. not had to replace anything yet.

Cost: 3/5
2008-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

Only on one occasion has it failed to start and I just needed to jump it and it was fine. Quite heavy on petrol particularly on small journeys. power retractable hard top very very expensive to repair if fails as mine has.

Cost: 2/5
2011-reg Petrol, Owner for less than a year

No faults of any kind to report. fantastic so far. Fuel economy isn't as good as hoped, and road tax could be cheaper, but otherwise it's a pretty decently-priced car to run, considering it's a 2-seater convertible.

Cost: 3/5
2009-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

Needed some shock absorber work under guarantee. knocking sound in roof space not dealt with under guarantee. Annual service ~ ł250. tyres still original. done ~10 000 miles since new at ~ 39 or 39mpg. that's all.

06-reg Petrol, Owner for Less than a year

Great car, a dream to drive, I was going to buy a Porche Boxter but put off by servicing cost.
The Mx5 does evrything I want and looks great, 2 litre engine quick enough, servicing and insurance are cheap.

Cost: 5/5
2010-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Easy to drive and handles well. good in all weather conditions and for a sports car has good all round vision. good acceleration and I am pleased with the mpg. Mpg good for style of car and urban driving.

Cost: 5/5
2008-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Very good. I had just one odd moment with the immobliser but that was down to batteries in the key / plipper needing replacement. Not cheap but it is a sports car and I didn't buy it for economy in mind.

Cost: 3/5
2011-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

No problems. For a small 1.8i engine and a light car compared to simialr models I think its 10 mpg off what the combined cycle should be to remain conpetitve. this is why I am selling it shortly.

Cost: 3/5
2008-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Have had no problems whatsoever since owning the car. Mpg is slightly lower than published but I think this is usual. have not needed any spares so far except new rear tyres after 25,000 miles.

Cost: 5/5
2007-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

Never let me down. only fault was a leaky roof . dealer fixed it with new pipes but cost over ł200. Supposed to do nearly 40 mpg . I reckon I get about 33mpg and I'm fairly careful.

Cost: 3/5

Quality product - very well engineered and built to a high standard. It has significantly exceeded my expectations in almost every respect and the local Mazda dealer is first rate.

Cost: 5/5
2008-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

Owned this car for 4 and a half years and nothing has ever gone wrong not even changed a light bulb. Servicing is reasonable and fuel economy is quite good for a 2 litre engine.

Cost: 5/5
2000-reg Petrol, Owner for more than 5 years

Only after 11 years did it cost me anything extra on the annual service. As I only do short trips my mpg is really bad - varying from 24 mph normally to 30 id motorway driving.

Cost: 1/5
2010-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Puncture cost meł150 due to no spare wheel.otherwise very goodexcelrnt on dry and wet roads no grip on ice ok in snow. Accessaries expensive if bought through main agents.

Cost: 3/5
2011-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

No problems experienced since I purchased it. Mpg is lower than newer model cars but I knew that when I purchased the car.servicing costs as expected from a main dealer.

Cost: 3/5
2010-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Absolutely no problems of any description. Although it has a 2 litre engine, the car itself is tiny and I would have expected an average mpg closer to 40 rather then 31.

Cost: 3/5
2008-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

I have never had any problems with it at all. Simply annual service and tyres. initially with main dealer, but since warranty has expired, with local and cheap mechanic.

Cost: 3/5
2002-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Great reliability in 3 years nothing has gone wrong! While as a sports car it is not miserly in fuel economy, overall the maintenance and overall costs are very good.

Cost: 5/5

No problems what so ever with the car. What I expected. can drive normally and improve running costs or drive it like a sports car and it's more expensive to run.

Cost: 4/5

No problems in 48,000 miles apart from a roof drainage problem fixed under warranty. Acceptable to me for a car not bought primarily for economy.

Cost: 3/5

Have not had a problem (yet) in the two years I have owned it. Very thirsty and parts can be expense if bought direct through the dealer.

Cost: 3/5
