Ultimate McLaren 650S plate up for grabs
Latest DVLA spring sale includes a must-have personalised number plate for any owner of the new McLaren 650S supercar
If you’re lucky enough to have a new McLaren 650S on order, you’ll need to get yourself down to the DVLA’s three-day spring sale, starting Wednesday, May 7th, near Daventry, Northhamptonshire. The reason? That’s where the number plate MCL 650S will be auctioned, with a reserve of just £400.
Never previously assigned, it could’ve been just another number trundling around on a Ford Escort or Vauxhall Corsa, but with the launch of the 650S, the DVLA has decided to issue it and hope it finds a swankier home.
Already sold out for the next six-months, the 641bhp 650S has now officially replaced the 12C, on which it’s based. It offers buyers another 24bhp from the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, an upgraded chassis, more kit and a P1-inspired front end, but this one-off plate has to be the ultimate accessory.
Other plates expected to whip up significant interest at the sale are HA12 PER, with its links to the Beckham’s daughter Harper, and 23 O which is listed with the sale’s highest reserve of £4,000.
Over the course of the three-day event, all the 1,500 numbers on offer are expected to fetch a total of £3 to 3.5 million, adding to the £1.8 billion already raised for the Treasury, since the first sale back in 1989.
