These spy pictures give us our clearest look yet at the new Mercedes CLA, ahead of its arrival in showrooms in 2014.
The four-seater saloon is based on the new A-Class and follows the look of the CSC - which stands for Concept Style Coupe - shown at the Beijing Motor Show in April.
As you can see from the pictures, the CLA gets the same door crease and chrome dot-matrix design grille as the Mercedes A-Class, while the swooping roofline is reminiscent of the larger CLS.
There's also a more aggressive front bumper with gaping brake ducts, while at the rear, vertical slots in the bumper, AMG-style exhausts and sportier-looking alloy wheels hint at the car's performance nature. We can also see a panoramic roof, privacy glass and Bi-Xenon headlamps.
The CLA will use a similar interior design to the A-Class, but will add sculpted rear seats with a centre console between them - rear passenger comfort is crucial in the lucrative Chinese market.
The Beijing show concept was powered by a 211bhp 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection powering all four wheels. Expect the range to expand to include a 2.2-litre diesel engine, which will be mated to a seven-speed Geartronic transmission.
The Mercedes CLA will start from around £25,000 when it arrives in the UK in 2014.

I am fond of this new corporate front end. Much more tempting than the current C Class saloon although my patience probably won't stretch to 2014
